Before he could answer, my mother-in-law immediately interjected, saying that pregnancy didn’t entitle me to special treatment and that I should manage the task myself. To my surprise, he apologized directly to me, explaining that a husband should provide care and support during pregnancy, and expressing disappointment that his son had not done so the previous night. His words filled the room with silence, and my husband looked visibly uncomfortable and reflective.
Although the apology didn’t erase the hurt from the night before, it meant a great deal to feel acknowledged and understood.
